Oaxaca Mexico Weblog / » Mexico Huatulco Festivals: Eco-FestivalThe Mexican city of Huatulco, in southwest Oaxaca State, will host, the 2007 Music for the Earth Festival from Thursday through Sunday to raise funds to preserve the environment. This 13th edition, with artists from Chile, Argentina, Spain and Mexico, is held to publicize the importance of protecting the environment and endangered species. Besides the concerts and freeing turtles and iguanas, the Music for the Earth Environmental Award will be given to Dr. Valeria Souza, of Mexico s National Autonomous University s Ecology Institute, for her work to preserve Cuatrocienegas lakes in Coahuila State. Oaxaca Tourism Secretary Beatriz Rodriguez noted that Huatulco was chosen to host the festival as winner of the international “Green Globe” ecosystem certification.
