It is ideal for those who want a little more peace than staying downtown can offer. And you’re only a couple of minutes away on the hotel’s shuttle bus. The Victoria also has a lovely view. You can enjoy it from a room or suite in one of the main buildings (three stories, no elevator), or you can stay in one of the villas distributed about the grounds, each with its own terrace. Rooms are large and carpeted, and have modern furnishings. The location — near shops, museums, and restaurants — is great. Rooms are simply furnished and not well lit and a little worn. Three have balconies over the street; the rest are off the interior patio. Most have a double bed. Except for the three rooms with balconies, all of the rooms are quiet. Source:frommers.com Oaxaca City Hotels: Hotel Ex-convento de San PabloPosteado el May 10, 2007 - Categorizado en Mexico Hotels, Mexico Oaxaca Hotels, Mexico Tourism, Oaxaca City Hotels, Oaxaca Mexico, Oaxaca Tourism Yes, another former convent turned hotel. Covering colonial Mexico, as I do, the novelty of these places has worn off some, but I admire this particular establishment. I liked it better when it was kept a bit dark and felt more monastic, but even now it has wonderful character. There is an idiosyncrasy in the rooms that is fun, and these are furnished with more flair and just as much comfort as at the Camino Real. What the San Pablo doesn’t have are the other’s expansive courtyards, the grounds, the pool, or the large staff and hence the service, but there’s a big price advantage, which in my book more than makes up for the lack of 24-hour room service — but then again, I’m inured to such hardship. All the rooms here are large suites with either a king or two double beds. The owners are supposed to be installing A/C in them this year, so if that’s important to you, inquire when you make a reservation. Get an interior room for the sake of quiet. The hotel is 2 blocks from the zócalo.
